Treatment of infections due to susceptible gram-negative organisms including Klebsiella aerogenes (formerly Enterobacter aerogenes), Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Initial criteria
- Diagnosis of acute or chronic infection caused by susceptible gram-negative organisms
- Evidence that infection is proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria
- If culture and susceptibility results are available, they confirm sensitivity to colistimethate
- Drug reserved for infections where gram-negative organisms are suspected or confirmed, and alternatives are unsuitable or resistance noted
