Antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis caused by C. difficile and staphylococcal enterocolitis (when administered orally)

Initial criteria

  • Infection proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria
  • Consideration of culture and susceptibility results in selecting or modifying therapy
  • Appropriate for penicillin-allergic patients or those who cannot receive or have failed to respond to other antibiotics including penicillins or cephalosporins
