Chronic antibiotic-dependent pouchitis
Initial criteria
- patient has recurrent pouchitis (typically ≥ 3 episodes within 12 months)
- episodes respond to antibiotic therapy but relapse shortly after discontinuation
- alternative causes of recurrent pouchitis have been ruled out
- patient has tried long-term antibiotic therapy (at least 4 weeks) with BOTH ciprofloxacin and metronidazole for remission maintenance
- prescribed by or in consultation with a gastroenterologist
